My name is Rachel and I recently started training as a Student Veterinary Nurse back in February 2023. I have been working at Mayne Veterinary Clinic for just over 2 years now, starting off as a receptionist and then moving on to be a kennel assistant before my training started.
It has always been a dream of mine to work with animals ever since I was a little girl and after spending 8 years working in a childcare setting, when the opportunity came up here at Mayne to become a part of the client care team I knew that this was my opportunity to follow that dream.
The thing I love most about my job has to be providing all the animals in our care with some TLC whilst they are here with us. Everyone knows how scary a visit to the vets can be for our pets so I love to try and help them feel less stressed and more comfortable whilst they are here with us. This could be anything from giving them a cuddle, talking (or sometimes singing) to them, offering them an enrichment toy or creating a quiet and dark environment for them.
I have had many pets over the past 28 years including a dog, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish and a budgie, but currently I have a 2 year old Labrador called Kallie who is my absolute world. I love taking her on walks and as a family we have already visited so many fun places together including Cornwall and the Isle of Wight. Outside of work I love baking and cooking and I am keen supporter of Ipswich Town Football Club, but currently a lot of my spare time is focused around my studies.
My favourite animal is an odd one and sadly something I don’t think we’ll ever see in clinic but I absolutely love Highland Cows! I live on a farm and am desperate to have one as a pet but my parents don’t seem too keen on that idea.
